Allah knows best.
It was narrated that the Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “The signs of a hypocrite are three: whenever he speaks, he lies; whenever he promises, he breaks his promise; and whenever he is trusted, he betrays his trust.”
[Sahih Bukhari, Book 2, Number 33]
Allah knows best. Another kind of munaafiq or hypocrite may be that person who calls himself/herself a Muslim, tries to act like a Muslim, but is in reality an unbeliever, due to his/her genuine disbelief in Allah and due to many signs of disbelief such as not remembering Allah when alone, not praying to Allah at all and praying only in the presence of Muslims and claiming to be fasting while one is not really fasting.
A typical motive of hypocrites is to create discord or disunity amongst Muslims, while pretending to be a Muslim when in fact they are far from being true Muslims, which is why the hypocrites may be in the lowest level of Hell:
“Verily, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depth (grade) of the Fire; no helper will you find for them [al-Nisaa’ 4:145] Allah knows best.
May Allah keep us away from befriending the hypocrites and May Allah keep us away from being amongst them. Ameen. May Allah make us Muslims among those true believing Muslims whom Allah loves and will love to have with Him in Heaven near Him and His beloved Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. Ameen. Always hold unto the Qur’an and the Sunnah/tradition and teachings of the Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. May Allah accept all our good deeds. Ameen.
