Allah knows best.
If you really love someone, help them.
Things you can do to benefit the dead in their grave:
1. Keep saying your du’as/supplications for the dead. Mention them often in your du’as/prayers.
2. In your du’as/supplications, mention to Allah all the good things which the dead used to do when they were alive:
Example: “O’ Allah forgive him for he loved charity, and used to provide clothing and food to the poor.”
“O’ Allah protect him from Your punishment for he used to love praying in the masjid and on a daily basis taught me and my family about Islam.”
“O’ Allah have mercy on her for she always helped me in only what is good whenever I asked her for her assistance. She was a trustworthy Muslim who loved only what is truthful and hated every lie.”
“O’ Allah make her among the inhabitants of Paradise and protect her from entering Hell because she taught me how to read the Qur’an when I didn’t know any Arabic and she was a good friend who never hurt me -not even once. Ameen.”
3. Avoid wailing for the dead as crying dramatically over the dead person, in Islam, is forbidden.
4. Continue the good deeds which the dead person used to do.
Example: the Islamic books they wrote -give them to others for free, the Islamic writings they wrote -read them to others, the Islamic videos they made -share them with others, if they used to take care of some Muslim orphans -for Allah’s sake, continue that good they used to do etc.
5. If they have any debts and owe anyone any amount of money, even a small amount of debt, pay them as early as you can on the dead’s behalf. Allah knows best. Deliberately stealing from others and not paying back their money you borrowed are one of the reasons for the punishment of the grave.
May Allah protect us from His punishments and May Allah make us among His friends whom He (Allah) will welcome in Heaven, near Him and His beloved Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. Ameen.
Note: Do not read any verse or Surah from the Noble Qur’an over the dead, thinking that doing so brings the dead blessings. Doing this is not in accordance to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.
